Tutorial 6 of 7

Playing with friends on one device or online

Beginner 6 min

Pass one device around with a privacy screen, or open an online table, send the invitation link with its six-character code and play with friends far away.

Every game in Playcards can be played with people instead of computer players: on one shared device, or online, each person in their own browser. Computer players can fill any seat that stays empty.

On one device

  1. Open the tab of the game you want to play.
  2. Under How do you want to play? choose Pass the device (friends on this device).
  3. Under Seats, set each seat to Person or Computer player and type the names.
  4. Press Deal the cards.

Before each person's turn the cards are hidden and the screen says Pass the device to … The others look away, the person whose turn it is presses …: show my cards and plays. Then the screen hides the hand again for the next person.

In Schlafmütze everyone grabs on the same keyboard: the keys 1 to 8 grab a token for seat 1 to 8.

Online with friends

Open the table

  1. Open the tab of the game and choose Online with friends (invitation code).
  2. Type Your name at the table. A first name or a nickname is enough; it is only shown to the people at your table.
  3. Under Seats, every other seat is Friend (invite) by default. Switch seats you want to give to the computer to Computer player.
  4. Press Open an online table.

Playcards shows the Table code — six letters and digits such as K7QX3M — and an Invitation link. Press Copy link and send it by chat or e-mail.

Join a table

Your friends open the link, type their name and press Take the seat. Without the link they can open Playcards, go to Join an online table, type the six characters and press Join. Codes avoid look-alike characters such as O and 0, so they are easy to read out on the phone.

When all seats are taken, the host presses Start the game. If a friend cannot come after all, the host gives the waiting seat to the computer with the Computer player button next to it — and Free the seat for a friend turns it back into an open seat.

During the game

The server deals the cards and checks every move, so nobody can cheat by changing the page. Each player's browser only receives the cards that player may see — your hand never travels to the other browsers.

If your connection drops, Playcards shows Reconnecting… and continues where you were. You can even close the tab: open the invitation link again in the same browser and you get your seat back.

Table → Leave the online table gives your seat to a computer player. If the host leaves, the table is closed for everyone.

Privacy

Online tables live only in the server's memory: no account, no e-mail address, no chat. The table is deleted two hours after the last move, when the host closes it, or when the server restarts. The details are in the privacy policy.
